It’s no secret that the trifecta of suntan lotion, beaches and maitais is an integral part of the typical vacation in Hawaii. But after years of infinity pools and room service and cabana boys on the island archipelago, this summer my wife and I decided that our next Hawaiian adventure with the kids had to be something different.

The US economy is picking up and people are looking to go on vacation this summer. Despite the higher gas prices, people are still taking to the skies. The desire for travel, particularly summer travel, is strong.

Maui is Magical!

Top Statistics:

• Canada and Europe love Maui: The average traveler from Canada and Europe stays an average of 12 days in Maui.
• Where the west roams: 80% of visitors from the western portion of the United States make repeat visits to Maui.
• Travelers from the Eastern US are split: 42% of visitors from the eastern portion of the United States are first time while 58% are repeat visitors. Japanese travelers are very similar in the same regard but they don’t stay as long (average 6 days versus and average of 10 days). (Source: Hawaii Tourism Authority)
